Masculinity-femininity scale (cpi: lacks face validity, 27 feminine items, 27 masculine items. + 27: individual endorsed all female items and not male items. 27: individual endorsed all masculine items and not feminine items. Melancholic: gloomy, morose, humour (black bile) Researchers try to correlate things relating to the body to behaviour and personality to certain gross (observable) features in the individual. They observed non-zero correlations between body type and behaviours/personality characteristics: endomorphy: extroverted, sociable, mesomorphy: aggressive, confident, ectomorphy: introverted, inhibited. Possessed dispositions that made them more likely to have certain mental illnesses, or certain personality traits. Developed using a lexical approach, list of adjectives that described personality. Ideas about where traits come from (origin of traits: types of data that they generate (self-reports, case histories, observations, etc. ) Temporal stability: relative level of self-confidence that can be measured.
