Document Summary
The expectation/claim that somehow violent media has no effect on us is not sensible because if there was no effect on us we wouldn"t be interested in engaging with it. We value any sort of media content/practice is significant to us and we value it because because it has some kind of effect on us. Debate is not whether it affects us, the question is how it affects us and we feel about those effects - it"s the nature of the effects that"s being debated, not whether if it affects us or not. As more mediated world becomes more and more saturated, as it becomes more replete with options and we become more distractible, the game of holding attention becomes more competitive and cut throat economically. Producers of media content is drawn to utilize whatever mechanisms they can that will hold attention within this fickle attentional economy. Prevalence of violence being in some way a response to cynicism.
