Document Summary
It was believed that development should be studied from birth to adulthood for a long term: belief that development ended around age 20, there is debate whether development is based on nature or nurture, genetic makeup or experiences. Birth: at birth infants the 5 senses exist in some form, aren"t developed the level of an adult. Infants can recognize the smell of their mother: hearing takes about 1 month to reach full capacity. Infants can taste and differentiate between tastes: capable of seeing about 30cm in front of them in order to see the faces of parents holding them, vision takes about 8 months to fully develop. Insecure-avoidant: the child shows no difference in behaviour when the mother leaves the room, or when she returns, disorganized attachment, the child displays inconsistent behaviour. Indifferent parenting: neglectful, low responsiveness and demandingness, the most damaging parenting style.
