Arginine is deaminated by enzymes no synthases. No has really short half-life (breaks down fast) = example of paracrine signalling where signaling is nearby the emitting cell. To control blood pressure, neuron sends signals to endothelial cell that surrounds blood vessel. Production of no occurs in endothelial cell (arginine conversion) No diffuses o(cid:374)(cid:272)e it"s (cid:272)reated (can diffuse through pms) Binds to a protein, changes conformation to turn it on. Here binds to protein guanylyl cyclase, turns cyclic gmp on. Cyclic gmp binds to other things which contracts the cell.
