Document Summary
Bees and wasps behave oddly in the fall; they are drunk in fall as a result of a reaction to ethanol by feeding on over ripe fruit. An adaptation for locating ripened fruit causes this. Broad-leaved helleborine flowers are believed to produce ethanol to attract pollinators. Identical twins: same genetic make-up, even slight differences in environment lead to variation in behaviors. In absence of food: rovers and sitters move more often for similar distances. Rovers are off food patches more often, but are likely to find new patches. Food deprivation at two levels (4h/24h) rovers still moved more than sitters at both levels of treatment increased food deprivation less foraging in both rover and sitter. F1x f1 f2: 3:1 rover:sitter (1 gene, two alleles) Foraging alleles produce pkg enzyme (responsible for foraging behavior, cell signaling, nervous system, gut) Rover allele injected in sitter larvae, then effects of the allele on foraging are measured.
