Document Summary

Bio 380 genital system lecture 27. The intermediate mesoderm forms the renal and genital system via the formation of the gonads and the mesonephric tubules. Once, the kidneys are developing and ascending; the mesonephric ducts no longer work as primitive kidneys. The wolffian ducts (mesonephric ducts) form first, and next are the mullerian ducts (paramesonephric ducts) that are adjacent to the mesonephric ducts but they serve no function. If the testis develops, they influence the production of the wolffian ducts to produce the vas deferens, the rete testis and the future tubules that connect the seminiferous vesicles to the epididymis. In females, the mullerian ducts persist due to the absence of the mullerian inhibitory substances. The wolffian ducts regress due to the lack of testosterone; they regress into garner ducts. The fallopian tubes connect the ovaries to the uterus. The wolffian ducts connect the testis to the cloaca (future urinary bladder and urethra)
