Document Summary

Bio 380 lecture 25 renal system. The renal system develops from the intermediate mesoderm. The two ducts are located between the mesodermal tubes. The upper part of the duct is called the nephrotome region. The middle is called the mesonephric region: the nephrotome and mesonephric regions do not make the renal system, they are part of the gastrointestinal tract. The lower part of the duct is called the metanephric region. Note: remember that there are two of each due to two intermediate mesoderm. The metanephric part will differentiate to form the future kidney. In the nephrotome region, the mesonephric duct will continue to descend until it reaches the cloaca. Differentiation occurs at the anterior part first. The mesonephric duct is open to the cloaca. You have the complete degeneration of the nephrotomes. You have a set of 4-6 mesonephric tubules from the duct: at the end of fifth week, The mesonephric duct develops an outgrowth called the ureteric bud.
