Psychological disorders: depressive, psychotic, and childhood disorders con"t. First episode typically occurs in late adolescence or early adulthood. Drugs that lower levels of dopamine can reduce symptoms of schizophrenia. Maybe schizophrenia involves an excess of dopamine activity. But many individuals with schizophrenia don"t respond to dopamine, and rarely is there complete remission of symptoms. Enlarged ventricles only found in minority of individuals. Compared healthy adoptive families vs adoptive families with extreme conflict/chaotic relationships. For children whose biological mothers had schizo, the disturbed environment increased their likelihood of developing schizophrenia. This study supports the following concept: positive symptoms of schizo, mind-body connection, genetic risk, diathesis-stress model. To identify the difference btw normal inattention and adhd. To explain why it is difficult to pin down causes of conduct disorder. Previously discussed disorders may or may not begin in childhood/adolescence. Begins in early childhood shows persistent communication deficits as well as restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviours, interest or activities.
