KINESIOL 1Y03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 27: Fibrocartilage, Vertebral Column, Costal Cartilage
Document Summary
Irregularly shaped bones bc lots of muscle attached. The design and articulation allows for lots of movement in head region. Less movement ability as you go down the column. Between spinous and body: vertebral arch (made up of 2 regions lamina and pedicle) Vertebral foramen which creates vertebral canal (for spinal cord) Transverse processes have an articular surface (create joint with another bone) has hyaline cartilage (white) Superior articular process where vertebrae articulate with each other 2 on superior surface and 2 on inferior surface. Facet is a smooth, usually flat, shallow depression (allows for greater degree of movement) Superior articular facet for rib head (specific to thoracic region) Some transverse process but small, and they have holes in them. To allow blood vessels to go thru neck. Speicalized feature called the dens: bony projection that sticks out on anterior superior axis of trailer hitch. More rigid as we go down vertebrae: posterior sacral foramina.
