Document Summary

Spinal cord: is a lon structure comprised of nervous tissues. It is a part of the cns that connects the brain to the pns. Spinal nerves: are extended from the cord out to periphery. Stacked on each other to form the vertebral column. Smooth side is the anterior side, spiney side is the posterior side. Vertebral foramen are opening between vertebra on the posterior side; they create a canal (when stacked) called the vertebral canal (where spinal cord is specifically located)(in between the posterior and anterior parts; make a long, vertical column) Each curve is divided into a region that dictates the name of the vertebrae along the vertebral column as well as spinal nerves that exit: cervical region, thoracic region, lumbar region, sacral and coccygeal region. Vertebrae also created a bit of a challenge. Because the canal curves, the spinal cord must also curve to maintain its position in the middle of the column.
