Discuss the changes in compulsory education in the us: compulsory secondary education was used to control kids and make sure they kept out of crime. Common core set of standards that everyone nationwide would use to make sure that kids are learning what they should for their grade (englihs and math) to make sure schools reach certain benchmarks and learn the same amount. Discuss what research has shown us about optimal school size, classroom size, etc: optimal size: 600 -900, kids do better in school when the size is intimate and they feel more belonging. Larger schools provide more diverse activities but also have less actual participation since there are so many kids. Smaller schools are better because there is higher participation rates and more one on one contact, closer schools: class size: 20 -40. Small classes benefit younger kids but not adolescents, that is a good range so the(cid:455) do(cid:374)"t feel si(cid:374)gled out or lost in the group.
