When we are born, we are helpless. There argument of nature vs nurture is a discussion of the importance of biological nature in comparison to our environment. Both are very important in developing our character. Self: the individual identity of a person as perceived by that same person. Me: the self as perceived by others. Other: someone or something outside of oneself. Generalized other: an internalized sense of the total expectations of others in a variety of settings. This is what keeps you from pulling down your pants on a hot summer day at the park. Looking glass self: our identity forms based on how we think others view us. Zimbardo: we choose not to do things because we are afraid of people"s reactions.
