Document Summary

After watching the movie about the chimps, i was not at all surprised to learned that baboons can classify other members of their group by both individual characteristics and belonging to larger groups. Humans do this all the time and we judge people based on their power and rank. The study also showed the baboons seem to comprehend how the female dominated hierarchy can be divided into various matrilines. The difference compared to between-groups ranking and quarrels and within-groups rankings and quarrels is something that i think is shown both in humans and other primates. There can be a lot of more problems caused from someone outside of your family. This was evident in the videos we watched where chimps hunted, killed, and ate other primates. The study suggests that baboon organize companions into a hierarchical, rule-governed structure that focuses on both kinships and rank.
