Millennials have been fundamentally shaped by events such as 9/11 and the economic recession. As an extremely large generation, millennials have a profound impact on national politics. The uncommon circumstances of a presidential candidate losing the popular vote, but winning the electoral college, have occurred several times in the past. Politicians are shifting towards social media instead of tv because it is typically much more personal and interactive. Obama was the first to heavily use social media as a tool to secure his presidential win not long after it had started revolutionizing society. John f. kennedy achieved his win similarly with the use of television. Older technological advancements also revolutionized society, including politics. Politicians had to be much more charismatic, esp. when speaking. Enabled the mass production of cheap newspapers. News could be spread and reported very quickly. Identity characteristics influence societal status and political opportunity/influence. Some dislike diversity because it requires political evolution.
