Document Summary

Acquisition: process of gaining info and placing it into our memory. Storage: hold information in memory until info is needed. Retrieval: locate info in your memories and bring it into active use. How you learn depends on what you already know; acquisition depends on info in storage. Info first stored in sensory memory which holds raw sensory form. Moves to short term memory (aka working memory) which holds info while you"re working on it. Some info transferred to long term memory which acts as a larger, more permanent storage place. Working memory: ideas/thoughts currently activated, thought about, that you are working on. Ltm: contains all your knowledge and beliefs, most of which you will not be thinking about. Memory retrieval involves moment of info out of storage and back into working memory. Getting info into and out of working memory is easy while putting info in ltm takes some work.
