ENL 2012 Chapter Notes - Chapter FINAL: Tragic Hero, Seamus Heaney, Courtly Love
Document Summary
Enl 2012 analysis for final exam practice: discuss the role of the epic hero in any two of the texts we discussed this semester. Using the prompt, choose two texts you read in this class. I decided to choose the two below as i know them best: beowulf, sir gawain and the green knight. Epics are tales of brave heroes pitted against a physical figure or a metaphorical idea. Each opposition in an epic tale is a black and white reflection of bad or evil to the hero"s good or righteousness. Beowulf is a heroic tale of a nearly immortal man"s triumph over adversity, while sir. Gawain and the green knight reveals the shaken virtue of the pride of a knight, and develops the tale in a way that negates the binary constructions of belief that the main hero so readily defends.
