PSY 230 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Ego Depletion, Affective Forecasting, In Essence
Document Summary
4. 1 self-presentation: managing the self in different social contexts. Having access to certain knowledge about ourselves, such as our intentions, can actually make us worse predictors of our behavior. If you are always late, you might not realize it if you feel that you are trying your best to be punctual. Vazire and mehl found that in some cases other people are actually better at predicting our behavior than we are. Vazire/mehl did an experiment in which both subjects and people who knew them well had to predict the frequencies of certain behaviors by the subjects. After a while, the subjects were eventually recorded so that the researchers could observe the actual frequencies of these behaviors.
