His invention was enormously important, and therefore quickly spread throughout the western world: books have survived, and most likely will continue to do so, due to their portability, permanence, and cost-effectiveness. As technology continues to advance, however, major changes are going to be made in the way books are produced, stored, distributed, purchased, and read.
