Illness and death were attributed to actions of the gods and demonic possession. Despite the egyptians lack of science some of their treatments they used were effected and still used. The egyptians are recognized as the first to treat disease systematically. Doctors recognized that weather and the ingestion of noxious substances affected the body. Used castor oil, olive oil, opium, and saffron. Heart was regarded as the vital organ, and respiration the most important function.
