Document Summary

Evolution = a change in allele frequency in a population over time. Formal definition of evolution: the change in allele frequency in a population over time. Theory = in a scientific context, refers to a widely accepted concept that has been demonstrated numerous times. Two types of theories: hypothesis (a guess or speculation); principle (concept that is supported by many sources) Overproduction of a variety of acorns leads to competition for the limited resource of light. The acorns will eventually grow into trees, but those with more exposure to sunlight (more exposure to resources), will grow the fastest. The acorns furthest away from the large tree on the far left will grow the fastest because they have greater exposure to sunlight. As they grow, they cast a shadow over other acorns and limit their ability to grow due to the decreased sunlight. The acorns between the large tree and the medium trees have barely enough sunlight to grow.
