PSY 320 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Job Performance, Original Intent
Document Summary
Job performance - those behaviors that are relevant to the goals of the organization. Should be behaviors that can actually be observed and measured, but it can be invisible activities and not directly observable. Cognitive behaviors must translate into something tangible, and we can measure these concrete products. Proficiency - how well the person performs the job. Effectiveness - refers to the results of the performance. Productivity - ratio of effectiveness (the output) to the cost of that effectiveness (the input) Nonspecific (generic) behaviors - behaviors that are not tied to specific job activities or tasks. These are behaviors that have consequences for the organization, but not directly related to the jobs. Some of these are beneficial: organizational citizenship behavior. Minimum job behaviors - might include just showing up to work or not goofing off, but could also be counterproductive. Direct work behavior - behaviors that bear a direct connection to task and job performance.
