Document Summary

Chapter 11 nervous tissue: nervous system: control and communication center. Works very fast, uses electrical and chemical signals. Sensory input: used to measure and detect the stimulus. Integration: the control center, for interpretation brain/spinal cord. Motor output: response: organization of the nervous system (split up into cns and pns) Central nervous system (cns): brain and spinal cord, the integrative and control centers. Peripheral nervous system (pns): cranial nerves and spinal nerves. The communication lines between the cns and the rest of the body. Split up into the sensory (afferent) division and motor (efferent) division. Sensory (afferent) division: somatic and visceral sensory nerve fibers. Conducts the impulses from receptors to the cns. Motor (efferent) division: motor nerve fibers, conducts impulses from the cns to effectors (muscles and glands). Split up into the somatic nervous system and autonomic nervous system (ans) Conducts impulses from the cns to skeletal muscles. Autonomic nervous system (ans): visceral motor (involuntary).
