If there is one genius in the history of jazz, it is charlie parker. Had both a positive and negative influence on young musicians during the bebop period: positive influence because he set musical examples that were almost impossible to attain, negative influence because of habitual use of narcotics. He possessed an unusually high iq but he was persistent in motive and effort he created something new. Parker spent much time memorizing the solos on tenor saxophonist lester young. His photographic memory, tonal memory, and keen sense of rhythm made parker one of the most exceptional musicians the world has ever known. He recorded strings, large ensembles, and small combos: his many compositions often showed rare insight. He composed many of his pieces using the harmonic structure of standard songs: proved his musicianship by improvising on the jazz classics, while at the same time collecting royalties on his original melodies.
