Document Summary

Aztecs and incas never knew about each other. Aztecs in the north, incas in the south. 1168, the aztecs wandered into the valley of mexico. Before aztecs arrived, the valley had been a home for many great civilizations. The valley was home to 4 ethnic groups who were not happy with the arrival of these new immigrants. At first aztecs were not able to find a place because they were constantly attacked by their neighbors. Aztecs were attacked and flee, but rather than fleeing by land they flee into the lake and sought refuge in an island of lake texcoco. When they get to the island, they see the eagle on a cactus eating a snake. They feel they found their new home. Settled on the island and began to build a new city called tenochtitlan, means city of the cactus. It was a tiny island but was expanded into a city.
