They badly wanted to put the wartime behind us. There were shortages on housing and food, bitter strikes and hyperinflation. Harry s. truman came into presidency on april 12, 1945. He was inexperienced and people viewed as in superior to roosevelt because he inherited the position. The problem with president truman: he gave false hope to the citizens because he was unable to deliver his pro(cid:373)ises. Co(cid:374)gress failed to e(cid:374)a(cid:272)t a(cid:374)(cid:455) of tru(cid:373)a(cid:374)"s other refor(cid:373) proposals. Truman called upon legislators to enact a national housing program, to raise minimum wage, to extend social security benefits and to pass a full employment bill. The full employment bill gave the federal government responsibility for full employment by enhancing power and spending for public works.
