HSC 120 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Arachnoid Mater, Dura Mater, Pia Mater
Document Summary
When the trigger zone of a neuron reaches threshold, it will send an action potential. A reflex is a rapid, involuntary, predictable, motor response to a stimulus. A reflex arc is a simple neural pathway that mediates a reflex. 3 types of memory: short term, long term, immediate. Any language deficit resulting from damage to either wernicke"s or broca"s area is called aphasia. Broca"s area is used to find words for outgoing language. Sodium and potassium are important in the diet to maintain resting membrane potential. 4 parts of the brainstem: medulla oblongata, pons, midbrain, reticular formation. The spinal cord extends from the foramen magnum to the inferior margin of the first lumbar vertebra. Meninges and spaces associated with them in order from superficial to deep. Membranes that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord: meninges. Ventricles are the cavities within the brain containing cerebrospinal fluid. The brain can be divided into 4 major subdivisions: cerebrum, diencephalon, brainstem, cerebellum.
