Document Summary

Purpose of writing a proposal: need to obtain permission to do the study. Resolve ethical and informed consent issues: need to obtain funding for the study, need to write down exactly what we intend to study, why, and how. Will need to obtain permission from related ethics committees. Must include budget and get it approved. Proposal should be as short as possible: concisely describe the proposed study, budget, and time frame in a way that is easy to read, follow, and understand. Content and writing style depend largely on who is going to review it. Many funding bodies stipulate on their application forms what and how much they want included, and in what format and order. If there is no stipulation, its simplest and most logical to write it in the order that the study will be conducted. Write formally, using third person, unless otherwise directed.
