The importance of the bond: animals help us balance body and mind, decreases loneliness and stimulates conversation. Reason to live; hope; helps us reach down deep and pull through. Theories explaining the bond: many scholars say: sense of being needed, attachment theory (bowlby): protection plays a large role; we protect our pets and help them (ie: communication to vets about issues) and they offer protection in return.
