EGR 100 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Divergent Thinking
Document Summary
To understand various other methods of design space generation. To understand the need for navigating, expanding and contracting design space. A design space is an imaginary intellectual region of design alternatives that contain all the potential solutions to our design problem. It is a formal tool for generating design spaces and for generating within those spaces a population of design that performs the functions specified. A morphological chart maybe defined as a matrix in which the leftmost column is a list of all the principle functions and key features required and across each specification all the possible means of realizing the specifications are list. The method is used for calculating the design space. The morphological tool provides a tool for developing a design and creates alternatives. It also prunes the design space by indentifying and excluding the infeasible and incompatible alternatives.
