EGR 100 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Reverse Engineering, Quality Function Deployment, A Black Box
Document Summary
To understand basics of functionality and various types of function. Functions are those things a designed device or system is supposed to do. Functions are of two types: basic function: it is a specific overall function that must be perform, secondary function: they are either other functions needed to perform basic functions or those that result from doing the basic function. This can be again sub divided as a) required secondary function i. e. functions needed for required for the basic and b)unwanted secondary function. A black box is a graphic of the systems or object being designed, with inputs shown entering the box on its left hand side and out puts leaving on the right. All of the known inputs and outputs should be specified, even undesirable byproducts that results from unwanted secondary functions. While applying the black-to-glass approach it is important that we reflect the underlying physics and express the inputs in those terms.
