Macrosociology: study of large scale groups, organizations, or social systems, looking at the big picture of what causes you to behave the way you do and what makes you who you are. Origins: theory- statements that explain why a phenomenon occurs, helps guide our research in sociological topics. Believed that the study should be imperical instead of theological. Emile durkheim: social facts- our way of life is highly different than our parents and grandparents because of this, social solidarity- cohesion and harmony. Helps drive a society: division of labor- as it becomes more specialized we depend on other people to survive.
