Origins: theory- statements that explain why a phenomenon occurs, helps guide our research in sociological topics. Believed that the study should be imperical instead of theological. Emile durkheim: social facts- our way of life is highly different than our parents and grandparents because of this, social solidarity- cohesion and harmony. Helps drive a society: division of labor- as it becomes more specialized we depend on other people to survive.
