Conflict : the way social life is organized (social structure) benefits some people but not, groups without power conflict with groups in power others power struggles. Those in power want to stay in power: social inequality and social change result form these struggles. Theory of the economy: economic change drives social change, similar economic shifts have occurred before, changing who is powerful, workers in conflict with capitalists (owners) The rise of capitalism during his time (industrial revolution) Predictions for the future capitalists: class consciousness=revolution, working class will wrestle power from the, class consciousness needed for the workers to challenge the capitalists, capitalism has cycles of prosperity/crisis. Each crisis make the working class grow stronger (class consciousness) The people in power benefit from the when the revolution was supposed to start, inequality would decrease in a different system legitimate traditional system/make society agree with them.
