Supplemental readings will be posted to the course website as needed. The purpose of this course is to introduce major concepts, theoretical frameworks, scholars, and subfields of sociology. The first few lectures will revolve primarily around history, methods, and the main theories of sociology. We will then move into aspects of social life, social inequality, and discuss various social institutions. This is a general education course in the social sciences. The goal of courses in this area is to ensure. Lsu graduates demonstrate an understanding of factors associated with global interdependence, including economic, political, psychological, cultural and linguistic forces. This course will not be a typical lecture class. It will involve an immense amount of discussion among all students in the class. Therefore, attendance, participation, and awareness of current social issues is imperative. The goal of this course is to be able to merge what we are learning in class with what we experience in the real world.
