Document Summary

Subculture because it"s just a little bit more extreme than the christian views of sex before marriage. The no kissing and no holding hands is more of the counterculture component. Premarital sex is more of a norm in society: father/daughter relationship is key. The daughter should live up to her father"s example. Daughters: they take a vow of purity with their fathers. It"s focused on them; gender rules: physical proof if they have premarital sex, girls are supposed to be more passive. Sons: they don"t have to vow their purity to their mothers, they"re just expected to follow and remain abstinent, but they aren"t expected to make the vow. Courting begins after the father gives approval of the man: reactions to deviance. Her parents don"t trust her anymore or talk to her. Establishing a sense of fear and control over daughters.
