Document Summary
Allochthonous- small streams depend on this, primary production that drives the stream, comes from outside, not from within, comes from the riparian zone. Primary producers autotrophs- (bottom of the trophic web) plants- able to make own food. Primary consumers herbivores heterotrophs- have to eat food created from somewhere else- moose, zebra, elk, squirrel, butterfly- able to crop the primary production & use for food. Secondary consumers carnivores- eat primary consumers, eat meat, not plants (eagle, mountain lion, whale) Tertiary consumers- eat secondary consumers that eat primary consumers that eat primary producers. Omnivores- like human, eat both plant and animal- bears. Trophic webs- allows the flow of energy (originated with the sun) from level to level. Grazing web- starts with plants, then moves up the trophic web and dies, becomes mushrooms and bacteria, then decomposes. Detrital web- primary decomposing web made of fungi and bacteria (dead stuff)
