Cattlemen were most concerned with homesteaders because they took away long that there cattle was grazing on for free. The cattle wouldn"t be able to graze on the didn"t want indians or hispanics to be the majority. They also wanted a place for land owned by homesteaders. The government wanted farmers in the west because they wanted white americans to populate the western half of the continent, they people to go to help the crowding in cities such as nyc. The west provided an area of opportunity for people to run their own lives. They wanted people to farm in the west because people back east needed food.
