They conquered the wake island the dutch east indies, guam, singapore, hong kong, burma. In mid 1942 it was a turning point for the war, japanese are not going to win any other battle in the pacific. Us was able to stop the japanese advance. Us took the offensive again and went o guadalcanal: us built air bases there, us attacked in order to destroy their airbase. It took us 6 months of brutal fighting to force japanese off the island. In the southern and central pacific the us is winning the war. Us had to turn their attention to philippines and japan. Holding off the germans: the allies had to decided when and where they were going to strike the germans and italians.
