Document Summary

Philosophy comes out of the dissatisfaction of greek religion. One possible answer they came up with was fate. Pythagoras- we know almost nothing about him except the pythagorean theorem which he is associated with because when you think about it, what is eternal in our lives? math! The principles of mathematics are unchanging, they don"t change. Heraclitus of ephesus- he said that the only thing that doesn"t change is change itself. Empedocles of acragas- he said there are four basic elements: air, fire, water and earth. You can make these into al different kinds of things. They are the four things in human beings and the universe. And he said everything is a combination of these things that are driven by love and strife. Leucippus of miletus- he said that everything we see is made up of tiny little particles called atoms. And everything we see is different combinations of these particles.
