Document Summary

Questions and answers for plato, the last days of socrates. The story of euthyphro provides an excellent, short example of an issue socrates thought important and the way he analyzed it. In euthyphro by plato, the main characters that are introduced are socrates and. Within this interaction, euthyphro tells socrates that he is prosecuting his father for murder. The main issue within this story is piety. Socrates tries to argue that it is impious to bring that type of action against your father. Euthyphro counters this argument by providing arguments of his own. Euthyphro first claims that piety is doing exactly what he doing, which is prosecuting anyone who is guilty of murder, sacrilege, or any similar crime whether they are your father or mother because it makes no difference. Anyone who chooses not to prosecute is considered doing an impious act. To further argue this point, he gives the example of zeus and his father.
