Uranus hated his children and thought they were ugly. As each child was born, uranus stuffed them back up into earth. Earth was in pain and asked her children to help her. One child, cronus, greed to help his mother. Mother earth reached up inside of herself, found iron, and made a sickle (used to cut grass) out of it. Out of the foam was born the most beautiful goddess. Size and spatial relationship- heaven is described as in the sky, then he is described as a human male with genitals. Didn"t think clearly about size and spatial relationships b/c myth makers didn"t. Cronus needed to marry to make babies; the only females available were his sisters think in realistic terms. Father is the only real parent of the child; gives male a special status. Male is in charge of all the families in a community.
