Document Summary

Ecology = study of how organisms interact with each other and their environment: primary goal is to understand the spread and abundance of organisms. The ecosystems of the earth are beginning to change due to the impacts of the things humans cause. Chapter 52. 1: levels of ecological study: there are ve main levels of ecology: organisms, populations, communities, ecosystems, and biospheres. Population ecology: focusing on the numbers and distribution of a population over time. Change over time: population = group of the same species that live in the same area at the same time, uses mathematical models to observe to population on a theoretical level. Community ecology: interactions between species and the consequences of those interactions: community = populations of different species that interact with one another in a particular area, ex. parasitism, mutualism, etc. Global ecology: quantifying the effects of human impact on the biosphere: biosphere = thin zone surrounding the earth where all life exits.
