Document Summary

Potential- stored energy whose capacity is not used at the moment. Chemical- relating to organic decomposing, such as food: laws of thermodynamics i. ii. 1st- states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can be changed from one form to another: explains why energy flows through our ecosystems and through cells. 2nd- states that energy cannot be changed from one form to another without a loss of usable energy: applies to living systems, cells and entropy i. ii. iii. Entropy- used to indicate the relative amount of disorganization. Due to the fact that the processes occur in cells are energy transformations, the second law means that every process that occurs in cells always does so in a way that increases the total entropy of the universe. The second law means that each cellular process makes less energy available to do useful work in the future.
