Document Summary

Most of our metabolism directly or indirectly requires atp. Most atp synthesis requires oxygen and generates carbon dioxide. The respiratory system consists of tubes that deliver air to the lungs, where oxygen diffuses into blood and carbon dioxide diffuses out. The respiratory and cardiovascular systems collaborate to deliver oxygen to tissues throughout the body and to transport carbon dioxide to the lungs for elimination. The resp. system also collaborates with the urinary system to reg. body"s acid-base balance. Cellular respiration: cells need oxygen for cellular respiration, and to make energy. C6 h12 o6 + 6o2 6co2 + 6h2o + 36atp. Respiration ventilation of the lungs, or the use of oxygen in cellular metabolism. To get the gases it needs, an animal must move some medium (water or air) containing oxygen over a surface. Ventilation is the movement of air into and out of the lungs. Air moves from high pressure to low pressure.
