See religious specialist woman will ask you to participate in a ceremony where there is drumming, chanting and other women who know they are possessed. Once a spirit descends on a woman she is no longer controlled (burping, smoking, sexy, yells, swears). Spirits are usually male and aggressive and powerful in society: if spirit is a military man she may ask for swords. Women"s husbands are muslim so they stay out of it but they hear what the spirit asks because they are the ones who provide their needs. He understands that this is necessary because if he doesn"t comply his life becomes harder. Janice boddy says that traditionally anthropologists privilege etic but she prefers emic. An ethnography can actually contain both emic and etic perspective. An anthropologist needs to explain that each perspective has its pros and cons (limitation).
