Questions: describe two emic perspectives on the iria ritual: empowering (florence"s perspective) vs. degrading (azikiwe"s perspective). Florence"s perspective: she was honored to take part of this tradition. The monday moses and women who passed menopause are very respected and if you disobey them you offend the gods. They learn that females are to respect their husbands and to love them. She refused to cut her hair and bare her breasts in public and therefore did not go through with the ritual to womanhood. I do not think what she did will change her society. One, she could have been a little more respectful by changing her tone of voice. Two, i think if she wants change she should have explained to the other girls that this ritual is unnecessary and she could have rallied others to support her choice. Consequences for herself is that her dad disowned her and never talked to her again.
