Ch 16 - development, stem cells, & cancer. Difereniaion: process in which cells become specialized in funcion o. Toipotent cells: are able to reverse difereniaion and then give rise to specialized cells in an organism. Led to tadpole experiment: nucleus from difereniated tadpole to one without a nucleus and it developed normally. Concluded that something in the nucleus does change as animals difereniate. Tissue-speciic proteins: give cells characterisic structure and funcion. Master regulatory genes: protein products that determine speciically what kind of cell. Cytoplasmic determinants: cytoplasm of an unferilized egg is not homogeneous. Random distribuion of these things leads to impact on development ater ferilizaion. Either binding growth factors from neighboring cells or surface molecules. Determinaion: unseen events that lead to certain pathway of development in a cell. Blebbing occurs (cell parts are packaged into vesicles) Patern formaion: issues, organs, etc all assigned to speciic formaion. Tells relaivity of other cells and front/back ends.
