Langer: points to experience only we can access. Santayana: gesturing toward what a self is. Ontology: an area of metaphysics that studies the nature of being, that kind of beings there are, and in what modes/forms in which they exist. Is there a real you? - an ontological question. Metaphysics: the study of what is real, what reality consists of, and how it is structured/ordered and how reality relates to appearance. Existentialism: the study of what is means to be a human being, the conditions which make a human being what it is, and that structure human existence. How are we to understand the meaning of life, the essence of existence of a human being, or the human condition. Human beings find their own existence to be an issue for them.
