Low birth weight, birth defects, lower intelligence, hyperactivity etc. Experiences activate and strengthen some neural pathways while others weaken from disuse. There is a critical period for some skills. A maturing brains rule: use it or lose it. The brain"s development does not end at childhood. Because of it"s plasticity, our neural tissue is ever changing and reorganizing in response to new experiences. We have our earliest memory at around 3. 5 years. But a lot of times, what the conscious mind does not know and cannot express in words, the nervous system and our two-track mind somehow remember.
