Ch. 1
Human anatomy is the study of how the human body is structured, from all the
bones to the nerves and muscles
Physiology is known as the study of function so it is a significant part of human
anatomy since that is where it gets its foundation
Morphology is the study of structures and forms
Functional morphology plays a larger role in understanding human anatomy since
it allows us to understand the functions behind the structures of the body
Anatomy of the human body has interested people to the point of researching it
for thousands of years so the research on the body dates back this far
oAncient research on the body was followed as truth for ~1500 years until
others began to question how accurate the information was
Cadavers are deceased bodies, they are often used to further our knowledge on
our anatomy
Gross anatomy is one of the sub-disciplines of anatomy and studies structures of
the body that can be seen with the naked eye
oMRI’s, X-rays, surface observations, and dissections are various ways in
which humans use gross anatomy
Surface anatomy is another sub-discipline that just examines how the human body
is structured externally
Radiologic anatomy is the sub-discipline that studies how the human body is
structured internally so MRIs and X-rays are often necessary for a thorough
examination

Document Summary
Human anatomy is the study of how the human body is structured, from all the bones to the nerves and muscles. Physiology is known as the study of function so it is a significant part of human anatomy since that is where it gets its foundation. Morphology is the study of structures and forms. Functional morphology plays a larger role in understanding human anatomy since it allows us to understand the functions behind the structures of the body. Cadavers are deceased bodies, they are often used to further our knowledge on our anatomy. Surface anatomy is another sub-discipline that just examines how the human body is structured externally. Radiologic anatomy is the sub-discipline that studies how the human body is structured internally so mris and x-rays are often necessary for a thorough examination. Systemic anatomy is a sub-discipline that studies one organ system at a time for a more organized understanding of how those organs function.
