ENGL1009 Chapter : Rough S5.docx
Document Summary
In slaughterhouse five, billy pilgrim copes well with the horrors and realities of life on earth. Everybody has some type of coping mechanism, eating food or taking a drive. This is a part of billy"s coping mechanism because time traveling takes him out of unpleasant moments in life and takes him to a different time. Billy pilgrim isn"t that different to the rest of people who are not unstuck in time. He is however different in the fact that he adopts the tralfamadorian view of life. He doesn"t see people as dead but only in a bad condition in a particular moment. This and time traveling let billy cope with life in a strangely effective way. Billy time travels to a time when he was much younger, because his current moment in time was unpleasant. The nature of his time travels is very sporadic and has no particular direction.
